چکیده

sun protection devices, sun protection scores (SPUS and SPAS) were created. Points were given for subjects’ responses regarding usage of sunscreen, sunglasses, hats/headgear, or shade structures. Sporadic use received 0 points, occasional use received 1 point, and routine use received 2 points. For statistical analysis, independent sample t-tests assuming unequal variance and χ tests were used for group comparisons when appropriate. Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) was used for correlation analyses. A multivariate linear/logistic regression model was designed and performed for sun protection use and for sunburns. Two-tailed P-valueso0.05 were considered to be statistically significant. Statistical analyses were carried out using Stata Statistical Software, version 12 (Statacorp, College Station, TX).

Proteasomal inhibition after injury prevents fibrosis by modulating TGF-β(1) signalling.

BACKGROUND The development of organ fibrosis after injury requires activation of transforming growth factor β(1) which regulates the transcription of profibrotic genes. The systemic administration of a proteasomal inhibitor has been reported to prevent the development of fibrosis in the liver, kidney and bone marrow. It is hypothesised that proteasomal inhibition would prevent lung and skin fib...

A Critical Role for the mTORC2 Pathway in Lung Fibrosis

A characteristic of dysregulated wound healing in IPF is fibroblastic-mediated damage to lung epithelial cells within fibroblastic foci. In these foci, TGF-β and other growth factors activate fibroblasts that secrete growth factors and matrix regulatory proteins, which activate a fibrotic cascade. Our studies and those of others have revealed that Akt is activated in IPF fibroblasts and it medi...

mTOR inhibition rescues osteopenia in mice with systemic sclerosis

Fibrillin-1 (FBN1) deficiency-induced systemic sclerosis is attributed to elevation of interleukin-4 (IL4) and TGF-β, but the mechanism underlying FBN1 deficiency-associated osteopenia is not fully understood. We show that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) from FBN1-deficient (Fbn1(+/-)) mice exhibit decreased osteogenic differentiation and increased adipogenic differentiation. Mechan...

Directed Blocking of TGF-β Receptor I Binding Site Using Tailored Peptide Segments to Inhibit its Signaling Pathway

Background: TGF-β isoforms play crucial roles in diverse cellular processes. Therefore, targeting and inhibiting TGF-β signaling pathway provides a potential therapeutic opportunity. TGF-β isoforms bind and bring the receptors (TβRII and TβRI) together to form a signaling complex in an ordered manner. Objectives: Herein, an antagonistic variant of TGF-β (AnTβ)...

Salvianolic Acid B Attenuates Experimental Pulmonary Fibrosis through Inhibition of the TGF-β Signaling Pathway

Pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive and fatal disorder. In our previous study, we found that the Yiqihuoxue formula (YQHX), a prescription of Traditional Chinese Medicine, had a curative effect on scleroderma, a typical fibrotic disease. The aim of this study was to determine the key ingredient mediating the therapeutic effects of YQHX and to examine its effect on pulmonary fibrosis, including ...
